Classical Poem Or Brothel Ad?
December 16, 2008
One of the dangers of trying to appear more worldly is that sometimes you don’t quite know what you’re actually borrowing from other cultures. This can happen to anyone, even the Max Planck Institute, one of Germany’s foremost bastions of science. To illustrate a special report focused on China, they used a Chinese classical poem, which turned out to be about “Hot Housewives in action!”
Disclaimer: since I don’t read Chinese, I’m actually taking it on faith that this Chinese text is what the story says it is. In effect, I’m one of those “worldly poseurs” mentioned above.
